Our first Blue Whale Challenge fitness fundraiser was a huge success! As our host and fundraising partner, Crunch Ithaca was instrumental in bringing this event to life — sponsoring the fundraiser and donating hundreds of T-shirts. Their support continues to be invaluable.

Congratulations to our winning team, who finished in just over 40 minutes — a pace of 1.25 reps per second!

Winning is always great, but the real point was raising funds to support gym memberships for people in recovery. Downtime can be tricky — it can stir anxious thoughts that may lead to relapse. People in recovery do best when they fill their free time with purpose and good habits, and for some, a gym membership can be the start of a new life.

The event raised enough to fund five gym memberships:

three will go to OAR clients, and two will be awarded by the Tompkins County Treatment Court to defendants working toward lasting sobriety.

We're already planning a second event between Thanksgiving and Christmas — so consider this your notice to start hitting the gym if you feel compelled to compete! (The rest of us will happily be on the sidelines, cheering you on.)
