DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUPPORT
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Many who are working to escape homelessness, addiction, and a return to prison, find themselves trapped in dangerous relationships.
But because of their history of substance abuse, lack of housing, and a criminal backgrounds - our clients are often considered not a "good fit" for mainstream services.
OAR provides emergency, short term housing for those who have nowhere else to go.
SEX TRAFFICKING
Sex exploitation and trafficking happens in Tompkins County......every day.
Sex trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, obtaining, patronizing or soliciting of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act has not attained 18 years of age. (22 U.S.C. 7102(11) (A)).
Because of the intersection of addiction, homelessness, and unemployment with Sex Trafficking, our clients are highly at risk. Survival sex is already a part of a lot of homeless, unemployed as well as addicted communities.
We contracted with in an expert, Rachel Lloyd, to educate our staff and community about these realities and their risks.

"If we're going to address trafficking in our country, we have to address poverty, racism, and gender-based violence."
- Rached Lloyd
