Denied a job after a background check?
Want to know if/when your record could be sealed under the new Clean Slate Law?
Learn Your Rights as a Formerly Incarcerated Potential Tenant or Employee
LawNY staff will provide information on the rights of people with a conviction record, who are returning from jail or prison, and are navigating finding work.
Other topics will include applying for employment and/or housing with a conviction record, obtaining and correcting your RAP sheet, applying for available relief and information on the Clean Slate Law in NY.
(The Clean Slate Law in NY offers New Yorkers to have conviction records automatically sealed 3 years from sentencing for misdemeanors and 8 years from sentencing for felonies, not including time incarcerated.)
There will be time for Q&A and community referrals will be available. OAR will be on hand to assist with answering questions and connecting clients to services, for anyone returning from incarceration, struggling with addiction, looking for housing or employment, sorting out transportation.
Individuals that need additional assistance will be screened for eligibility for free services from LawNY.
